CHURCH COUNCIL
“Do not be called
leaders; for One is
your Leader, that
is, Christ”.
Matthew 23:10
The Davidsonville United Methodist Church
Council provides
guidance for the
operation of the
Church and works
towards
accomplishing goals
related to the
future vision of the
combined ministries
of the Church. The
Council holds open
meetings which are
divided into two
segments. The
Planning Council is
the combination of
all ministries,
committees and staff
concentrating on the
future vision of the
Church. The
Administrative
Council Committee
meets to conduct the
business of the
Church and its
operations. The
Planning Council has
embraced the topical
themes of
EVANGELISM,
COMMUNICATION,
COMMUNITY, ALL AGES
and FACILITIES. All
Church Council
meetings are open to
the Congregation and
your participation
is encouraged. In
all we do, we seek
to follow God’s
plan.

BUILDING
COMMITTEE
1 Kings 5:5 "And
behold, I purpose to
build an house unto
the name of the Lord
my God "
The Building Committee is responsible for
turning the church's
vision
into facilities
that support the
ministries of the
church. It consists
of 10-20 mature
church members who
possess a strong
understanding of the
church’s
vision. They
represent specific
ministries of the
church, ensuring a
comprehensive
balance. They are
ministry-motivated
and committed to
expressing their
viewpoint honestly
and articulately,
without offending.
The committee's
first goal is to
create an atmosphere
which ensures
respectful
discourse.

CARE & NURTURE
COMMITTEE
"Come you who are blessed by my Father; take your
inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the
creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave
me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me
something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited
me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was
sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and
you came to visit me. Whatever you did for one of
the least of these brothers of mine, you did for
me." Matthew 25;34-36,40
The Care and Nurture Team provides support
to members and friends on a short-term and on-going
basis. Some of our volunteers provide
communion to homebound members and friends, others
participate in the prayer chain, and some prepare
meals for people in crisis. Communion is given
to homebound or hospitalized members on the
afternoon of each Communion Sunday. The prayer
chain is a telephone and email network through which
volunteers are notified of prayer requests and
prayer needs. Meals for funerals and other
crisis situations are organized by members of the
team who, in some cases, will call upon members of
the church. We plan to expand the activities
of the team to include providing transportation to
church activities, visiting homebound members on a
regular basis, and checking in on folks who are in
the hospital. We would also like to identify
and meet other needs of our members and friends, so
we welcome information or participation from anyone
in the church.

Care & Nurture
committee please do

EVANGELISM
COMMITTEE
The Great Commission - "Go therefore and make
disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name
of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
and teaching them to obey everything that I have
commanded you. And remember, I am with you always,
to the end of the age." Matthew 28: 19 & 20
The Evangelism Committee works to attract
guests to worship and other ministry activities by
means of personal invitation by our members, the
website and other means of promotion. We strive to
make their experience pleasant and stress-free by
providing parking assistance, hosts, a staffed
information center, provide coffee, and a nursery
for children--infants through 3 years old. We also
follow up with them afterwards with phone calls,
personal visits and mailings. We also equip our
members with evangelism training, and resources for
education and encouragement so that they may share
their faith with others and connect people to Life
in Jesus.

Evangelism Committee

FINANCE
COMMITTEE
"As stewards
of the manifold
grace of God, serve
one another with
whatever gift each
of you has
received." 1 Peter
4: 10-11
The focus of the
Finance Committee is
on Stewardship.
Stewardship is the
"management of God's
household".
Stewardship is the
way we manage our
entire lives: our
gifts and talents,
our resources and
possessions, our
time and our energy.
Stewardship is our
"whole life"
response to God. The
job of the Finance
Committee is to
identify, perfect,
and manage the
finance system for
the congregation.
The finance system
is the processes of
raising, managing,
and dispersing the
finances so that the
mission and vision
of the congregation
can be achieved.

questions for the
Finance Committee
please do not

STAFF PARISH RELATIONS
COMMITTEE
"To equip the saints for the work of ministry, for
the building up of the body of Christ."
Ephesians
4:12
The Staff Parish
Relations Committee (SPRC) is the administrative
unit at DUMC where staff and congregational
interests are integrated to focus on the mission of
the church.
The SPRC relates to all staff, both bishop-appointed
staff and employed staff. The SPRC has some of
the same functions of a personnel office or Human
Resources department in other organizations.
The SPRC has primary responsibility to work with
staff so that the mission of the church is realized.
The SPRC should have a clear understanding of your
local church's mission and vision, built upon the
mission of the wider Church. Clear
understanding of your church and prayerful listening
to God's direction will guide both the development
of job descriptions and the assessment of staff.
The SPRC works with individuals and groups,
including:
-
the lead pastor
-
all ordained leaders
-
the lay staff
-
the congregation
-
the community outside the walls of our
building
-
the district superintendent
-
the United Methodist Conference and general
church staff
Remember that The United
Methodist Church has an appointive system rather
than a call system for clergy leadership. The
SPRC consults with its district superintendent about
congregational needs. The SPRC members must be
attuned to the movement of God's Spirit so that they
serve as guides, teachers, mentors, managers of
conflict, and interpreters of ministry both to staff
and the congregation.
Specific tasks for the SPRC
include:
-
explaining the
nature and function of ministry to the
staff and the congregation
-
conferring with the congregation and the
staff/pastor about ministry direction
-
assessing the ministry of the
congregation and the staff/pastor at
least annually
-
conferring and consulting with the
district superintendent
-
supporting lifelong learning for all
staff (continuing education)
-
identifying and supporting individuals
from the congregation whom God seems to
be calling for ordained ministry (click
HERE for a letter about DUMC's SPRC
Vocation Fund)
-
making recommendations regarding
compensation, travel, benefits and
housing to the church council
-
recommending needed staff positions and
develop written job descriptions and
titles for associate pastors and staff.
If you have any question for the SPRC please do
not hesitate to email them at
sprc@dumc.net.
This committee meets generally on the first
Monday of each month.
TRUSTEE COMMITTEE
"I told them how the hand of my God had been
favorable to me and also about the king's words
which he had spoken to me. Then they said,
'Let us arise and build.' So they put their hands to
the good work." Nehemiah 2:18
The Trustee Committee of DUMC is
responsible for administering the maintenance of all
church property.
If you have any question for the
Trustees please do
not hesitate to email them at
trustees@dumc.net.
This committee meets generally on the second Monday
of each month.

WORSHIP COMMITTEE
The Worship Committee has two major tasks:
Working with our pastors, we do part of the
preparation for worship. We prepare the elements for
communion, decorate the church for special services
and seasons, invite guest speakers and ask members
to assist with worship. Secondly, and the primary
business of our meetings, is to discuss and evaluate
our worship together as a congregation, and to make
proposals to the Session about our worship needs.
If you have any question for the
Worship Committee please do
not hesitate to email them at
worship@dumc.net.
This committee meets generally on the second Monday
of each month.
